Marta Chojnacka & Joan Ayguadé Jarque are Materia Rica, a jewellery brand made in Barcelona that combines the best of craftsmanship, technology and art.
The history of the brand must be sought in London, it was there where the first steps of what is today Materia Rica began: accessories with design that combine crafts, technology and art. Marta and Joan met in London, in the Shoreditch district, and after selling the first jewellery designed by Marta in the markets of Brick Lane, influenced by Neo Craft, they decided to start their business venture. Marta would be in charge of the creative part and Joan of the production.
In 2015 they decided to move to Barcelona and founded Materia Rica, a city in which you can find our the workshop and showroom (Josep Torres 16-18) in which all our products are created. From here we take care of the whole process, from the first sketches to the final product packaged in the iconic blue boxes. We are committed to originality without renouncing the local production that allows us to create high quality designs.
The first collections are the work of Marta, and over time they have become basics, like Blue Freedom, Blue Bird & Love, Sardines... they are still top sellers and they both have a special affection for them, as they are the ones that started it all. The first collection was called Loving Doves, perfect for all those who believe in the power of love, the carrier pigeons are an icon of the firm and are complemented with hearts.
Collaborations with illustrators came later, the first of which was with the German tattoo artist Miriam Frank, in a totally casual way that became a hit for the firm thanks to designs like Hand earrings, Whale or Koi Fish, both elegant necklaces. This was followed by the rest, such as with Gemma Bordes, the illustrator responsible for one of the catlovers faourite, Hanging Cat Earrings or Cat with a butterfly.
Other designers are Asis Percales, who brings out the most daring side of anyone with earrings inspired by mexican icons, like Corazones or Smiling Calacas, or Lisa Junius, who vindicates femininity and nature with her delicate blue shapes, hers are Crescent Luna or Luna.
We also created a collection in collaboration with important Museums and Foundations like Magritte Foundation, Fundación Gal·la Salvador Dalí, TATE Modern, Casa Batlló... these collections have been bestsellers in shops all over Europe.
Original, careful, high quality, innovative... are some of the adjectives used by our customers. Do you want to discover all our designs? Choose your favourite one and Wear your story.
