Matisse in the Studio

For Matisse in the Studio at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, we created a bespoke jewellery range inspired by colour, form, playfulness and creative freedom.

The collection translated the joyful visual world of Matisse into reversible pieces designed to be worn, gifted and enjoyed beyond the exhibition.

Project type: Exhibition-inspired jewellery
Created for: Royal Academy of Arts
Location: London, UK
Focus: Colour, playfulness and wearable design

The story behind the project

Matisse in the Studio invited visitors into the artist’s creative world, through the objects, colours and forms that surrounded his work.

For this project, we focused on that sense of joy, freedom and playfulness, creating jewellery that felt connected to the exhibition without becoming a literal reproduction.

How we translated it into product

We translated Matisse’s visual world through colour, shape and versatility.

Simple forms, bold colour combinations and lightweight materials helped create pieces that felt expressive, wearable and easy to enjoy.

Reversibility became part of the concept, giving each piece more than one way to be worn.

The final collection

The final range brought together playful, reversible jewellery inspired by the exhibition’s visual language.

Each piece was designed to feel colourful, expressive and giftable, offering visitors a wearable connection to the world of Matisse.

Created for cultural retail

The collection was designed to work clearly in a museum shop context: attractive, easy to understand and closely linked to the exhibition.

It offered visitors something more meaningful than a souvenir: a joyful piece to wear, gift and remember.
